THE LITERAL MEANING OF balance

 

This post is going to talk all about balance! In regards to work, food, exercise, and just life in general. We all need some balance in our lives, and things that balance my life out might tip your scale for you personally, and your things could tip my scale as well! So keep this in mind! Become inspired through reading and apply your own tactics. Everyone has different variables in their lives, so comment below some things that help keep you in balance!

 

W O R K

I am still transitioning through this big change in my life, but it is very important to balance your work schedule accordingly. Recently, I've had to prioritize different businesses and tasks because for a while there I was stuck on overload. I've found it very handy to:

MAKE LISTS:  This one is my favorite. I've mentioned it a few times on Instagram story rants, but trying to remember everything you need to do creates stress. Don't put extra pressure on yourself, you have other things to worry about!

DEDICATE ONE DAY TO ONE JOB:    Sometimes this is hard to do, because things need to get done. BUT if it's in your control, schedule different tasks/jobs/projects for different days of the week.

FINISH WHAT YOU STARTED:  Don't let several incomplete projects linger. This will hover over your head indefinitely until you complete the task(s), so just target one at a time, know the end goal, and get it done!

 

F O O D

This topic has infinite opinions by each and every one of us. We all enjoy different foods, we all have been exposed to different beliefs, different diets, different cleanses, different brands, and so on forever and ever. So let's keep this general.

LIFESTYLE, NOT DIET:  When we put pressure on ourselves to follow a diet, it's like following a rule book. I understand the perspective that having an exact regimen to follow does help with learning how to "eat better," but try changing your perspective. Really, when you use the word "diet" it sounds (to me at least) like a short term action. On the other hand, "lifestyle" is a choice of how you will live out the rest of your days. Incorporate whatever you choose into your every day. (and PLEASE do your research before hopping onto any of the fad-trains.)

EAT WELL-ROUNDED:  I'm not going to throw any personal opinions regarding meal choices at you, because again, food lifestyle is a personal choice. But whatever you do, eat well-rounded. For example, just because cereal is vegetarian doesn't mean it's healthy to eat it 3x a day! Eat the rainbow, y'all. Know what vitamins and nutrients are in the food you choose to ingest.

EAT THE DONUT:  For goodness sakes, eat the donut. Of course, everything in moderation. But if you're following your lifestyle plan consistently and you're presented with an opportunity every so often to have a bagel, IT'S OK. Treat yourself. I've personally found that if I don't let myself snack every once in a while that I fall right back into regular poor eating habits because the "diet" was too difficult to follow. I personally LOVE chips, so rather than eating the entire bag, I have a moderate amount to subdue my craving. And no, one cheat meal a day does not count. Be honest with yourself, we all know when we fall off!

 

E X E R C I S E

I suppose my whole life has been exercising in ways that I didn't realize I was keeping in shape. Only until I got older did I notice I had to make the conscious effort to stay in shape, because we adult and the fun things go away. Why?! I used to dance, play volleyball with friends, DDR (remember that game? ADDICTED), ride bikes, go for walks, play man hunt; why has our perspective of exercise funneled into "GO TO THE GYM" ?

GET CREATIVE:  What's fun for you? Personally, I learned I enjoy running, yoga, climbing, dancing on weekends with my girlfriends, kayaking, long romantic walks on the beach (LOL jk, but not about the beach part), hikes, exercising without gym machines (free weights, or simply using your body), busting a move while I'm getting ready for my day. And I'm still learning new ways to incorporate fun things that keep me active! 

PUSH YOUR LIMITS, BUT ALLOW TIME FOR REST:  We can't expect to bring ourselves to the next level of our capabilities if we don't push ourselves and aren't consistent. But this doesn't mean go hard every day. Listen to your body, it will tell you when it needs rest. Remember, sleep is when the body heals itself! Allow your body to do its job!

 

L I F E

Keeping this part simple, just allow time for life and experiences. You can't rewind time, and some things are only presented to us once in a lifetime. Allow yourself to enjoy life. Start saying yes to things outside of your comfort zone. Reach out to a friend you haven't seen in a while. Take that trip! Relax, it's just money. There's always more where that came from. Do things that make you feel GOOD! Smile even if you don't feel like it. Watch your mood change instantly. Maybe someone will see you smile, making them smile. Happiness is contagious. Balance is allowing time for YOU. You work hard, you deserve it.

 

 

WHAT I WOULD LIKE YOU TO COME AWAY FROM THIS BLOG POST WITH, IS DO WHATEVER IT IS THAT MAKES YOUR MIND HAPPY AND YOUR BODY FEEL GOOD. YOUR MIND, BODY, AND SOUL WILL TELL YOU WHAT IT WANTS AND NEEDS IF YOU QUIET THE MIND AND LISTEN TO IT.
