Everybody knows about the famous big tree,
ice skating in Rockefeller center,
and the festive window-shopping to be done at MACY's,
but, who wants to deal with places that EVERYONE knows about?
So we collaborated with event planner
Alexandra Nicole Senzamici
who always knows about the coolest stuff,
to bring you some lesser known spots
that are a must-see this holiday season!
Feast Your Eyes on the Decor at Rolf's German Restaurant:
281 3rd Ave, New York, NY 10010
A Christmas spot known for its festive drinks like spiked egg-nog, roasted almond flavoured drinks, and holiday themed martinis. BUT, the holiday spirit doesn't stop at the spirits! It's true charm (and photo-worthiness) is in the massive amounts of decor they display during the season. Head here if you're seeking MAJOR Christmas aesthetic through and through!
Have the Fanciest Coffee of Your Life at Felix Roasting Company:
450 Park Ave S, New York, NY 10016
A coffee company, with unique, over the top specialty drinks (If you're looking for spiked drinks head elsewhere on our list-no alcohol here!) Alex's inside scoop? The s'mores latte is divine. This place isn't necessarily Christmas-y, but its warm and cozy, as are the drinks. The perfect spot for escaping those chilly winter days in NYC.
Grab the Cutest Custom Cards at Melsy's Illustrations:
A quaint little booth with locations in Bryant Park and Columbus Circle. If you need a quick, unique gift, look no further. Hand-made cards and prints, and they can be completely customized. Think the caricatures in the city, but with class and style- like a fashion design sketch, only the model is YOU! Alex works here, so if you're in the area, stop by, grab a few holiday cards and say hello!
Shop + Eat Around the Winter Village Bryant Park:
Winter. Wonderland. Actually, Winter Village. There's an entire outdoor village, filled with small glass houses that hold pop-up boutiques for independent businesses around the city. There's a large tree in the center, and an ice rink, which is free if you bring your own skates... that's right...something FREE, in Manhattan. Be sure to work up an appetite walking around, because there's also an entire food section dedicated to the cuisine of NYC (like Chimney Cakes...DROOL).
Have Rooftop Igloo Drinks at 230 Fifth Rooftop:
Drinking on city rooftops is exclusively a summer activity no more. Head to 230 Fifth, and grab one of their cute and cozy red eskimo robes before heading to the rooftop bar to mingle in inflatable, heated igloos, and drink spiked hot chocolate
while enjoying the Manhattan skyline.
Sip Cocktails in a Yurt at the Standard's Winter Garden:
It's not every day you get to drink in a yurt in the middle of the East Village. These yurts are reservation only, November through March, and offer packages that include fondue, and hot drinks like spiced cider and mulled wine. Find all the deets here.
Christmas Eve Caroling Under The Arch at Washington Square Park:
Nothing really says Christmas like Christmas Caroling. Dec 24, from 5-6PM under the Arch at Washington Square Park. There's even a tree there! Find details here.
Get Dressed and Get Drunk at Santa Con on Dec. 8:
Alright, so we've all heard of this one. And its a total shit show. But it's a fun, festive shit show, so it made the list. The streets of NYC are filled with thousands of Santa's, who then proceed to get wasted. If you choose to attend, be responsible and courteous, and please, remember the children.
